Re-designing a very successful object is a big challenge.    At the beginning of this project I was asked to nominate a fantastic furniture which I think and it continued into ‘redesign project'.  The reason I chose Noguchi's coffee table is that it has a very economic process to make, whist not losing the elegance of the product. So I decided to start with some small changes on material keeping one interlocking joint and two identical legs.
The coffee table ‘Umbra' consists of two identical steel legs that interlock to form a tripod for self stabilizing support. The lower top joined between legs is able to rotate giving a subtle change.
